Under 'Preferences', select the 'File Folder' menu. Click the 'Browse' button next to 'VST Plug-In Custom Folder'. Select the folder you would like Ableton to use for VST Plug-Ins. Confirm that the 'Use VST Plug-In Custom Folder' option is turned on, and the file path listed under 'VST Plug-In Custom Folder' leads to the folder you just selected. Ableton comes with a wide selection of built-in effects such as EQ’s, reverbs, delays, flangers, vocoders, pedals and many many more. However there are a huge amount of third-party VST effect plugins you can find on the web. Click here for our list of the best 100 FREE VST effects and instruments of all time. I've installed the VST and copied the DLL into my VST folder with all my other plugins. I start Ableton, drop a drum loop onto an audio track and hit play. Next I've dropped the RMX-1000 plugin onto the track and I want to record some effects as I do them on the hardware. When the plugin opens, the STATUS indicator at the top is not lit up, but. 32-bit plug-ins on 64-bit Windows: C: Program Files (x86) Common Files VST2. Any other folder your VST host application is scanning during startup by default is also suitable. You can try installing them first in:
Users/~yourname/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST/

Then direct Live to look there. If it sees them, then drag the plug-ins to the main VST Plug-ins folder and update Live to look there.
